Main attractions
It’s often said that Australia is the lucky country. If that's true, then North Queenslanders are the luckiest with the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef just off the coastline, rainforest and waterfalls close by and the Outback, just a matter of hours away.

Cairns is the gateway to North Queensland. Every direction leads to a lifetime of memorable experiences.

The Cairns Esplanade is perhaps the focal point of the city with two kilometres of landscaped walkway separating the exceptional beauty of Trinity Inlet on one side from a bustling restaurant and shopping thoroughfare on the other. The tropical climate draws visitors and locals alike all year round to the Esplanade where they can promenade and bird-watch along the tidal flats, barbecue at free cooking sites, swim in the landscaped lagoon, browse the shops or night markets or eat at one of the many trendy al fresco cafes and restaurants.

Yet within minutes visitors can leave the city behind to explore the surrounding region with its stunning coastal or mountain drives, unspoilt beaches, tropical rainforests and wide open desert spaces. The Great Barrier Reef is just a boat ride from the centre of the city, where beauty is hard to describe in words, the colours of the reef is an underwater rainbow.... Going north of Cairns visitors find Port Douglas, the Daintree, Cape Tribulation and Cooktown. Imagine driving with the blue of the ocean on one side and the thick green rainforest on the other, the drive itself to see these places will keep you wanting more.
