JPY 10'000

Dates: Every Month, subject to a minimum of 12 persons

Program

Shirakawago is a secluded mountain village that was nominated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995. This historic area contains over 100 traditional farms or Gassho-zukuri. A typical house has 4 floors and houses several families. The pointed roofs are formed like two praying hands, in order to bear the weight of the snow. The Hakusan National Park is located in the Southeast of the Ishikawa prefecture. During summer, the summit can be climbed early in the morning to enjoy the sunrise, whilst during the winter months, skiing and bathing in the hot springs – Onsen springs – are popular past times. During the summer months, the journey takes us through a wonderful countryside along the 33 km long Hakusan Super Forest road. The excursion includes a short hike to the Ubagatake waterfall, where you can bathe in a hot spring (this part depends on weather conditions). On the way back, we stop at a craft center and have a go at producing Washi paper. Students can take postcards they have made from the paper home.
