Main attractions
Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, rests along the banks of the Swan River a few kilometres from the ocean beaches. With no heavy industry, it is virtually pollution free and enjoys an idyllic Mediterranean climate. It has a colourful nightlife, an abundance of first class restaurants, a variety of theatres and concert halls and an international resort casino. With its wonderful climate, Perth enjoys world class sporting venues and opportunities, ranging from golf, to hang gliding and wave skiing. Western Australia is immense. It is bigger than all Europe combined. Because of its size it is a land of enormous contrasts, from the temperate forests of the south, through the arid goldfields of the centre to the tropical north. There are more species of wildflowers in Western Australia than in all the rest of the world. Animals range from cuddly koalas to giant salt water crocodiles, plus kangaroos and emus. The beautiful Indian Ocean coastline runs from the jagged rocks of the southern capes past world renowned surf beaches and fishing grounds, glittering sandy beaches, marinas and pleasure harbours to the mangroves of the tropical north.
